About The Position

Positive Support Specialists work in Intensive Community Residential Services (ICRS), highly specialized programs serving individuals with intensive medical, behavioral, and mental health needs. The programs use a person-centered approach to help people reach their goals while considering the safety of individuals, team members, and the community. Consistency and routine are important to the programs’ success. Specialists support individuals at home and in the community so they can participate in meaningful events and activities. The position is scheduled every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pay is $20 per hour. Candidates receive training in Positive Behavioral Supports and manual restraints in conjunction with 245D requirements.

Requirements

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
Ability to stand, squat, bend, or walk for long periods.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Clearance through a Bureau of Criminal Affairs (BCA) background study.
Valid driver's license and a Motor Vehicle Check (MVR).
High school diploma at minimum.
At least 1–2 years of experience working with people with complex needs.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of local community resources.
A degree in a field relevant to the role.
3–5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Help individuals become more independent in essential life skills, including meal preparation, personal hygiene, and navigating the community.
Advocate for the people supported in areas such as their rights, medical care, and community participation.
Complete required documentation and record-keeping during every shift.
Manage crisis situations safely and effectively, potentially including the use of manual restraints.
Provide trauma-informed care daily.
Support individuals at home and in the community to participate in meaningful events and activities.
