The Police Radio Dispatcher is a critical link between the public and law enforcement officers, receiving, prioritizing, and relaying information between the public and police personnel. The role requires accuracy, composure under pressure, and quick decision-making in emergency situations. Dispatchers handle emergency and non-emergency calls from the university community and surrounding jurisdictions using a multi-line computerized telephone system, enter caller and radio information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and dispatch officers over a two-way P25 radio system. The position is based at ASU’s Tempe Campus. The Communications Bureau operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, serving a prominent urban university community across four campus locations. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled office setting using dispatch, telephone, radio, camera, and alarm systems. The position may require rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime to maintain round-the-clock coverage. ASU conducts pre-employment screening, including a criminal background check and fingerprint check; employment depends on successfully passing these checks. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States; ASU and ASU Police Department will not sponsor this position.
