About The Position

The Plus One Department Lead provides direction on department operations, processes, and conditions. The Lead plans, guides, and empowers team members in daily operations, models exceptional customer experiences, and helps achieve department goals by influencing peers and supporting a winning team strategy. This role may also require serving as a Lead in other store departments and performing other assigned or required duties.

Responsibilities

Engage peers to provide customers with the best possible shopping experience, including an exceptional checkout experience.
Communicate with team members and assign daily work tasks.
Mentor and coach team members to exceed customer service and sales goals, maintain Meijer standards, and complete required training.
Support training new team members and cross-training high-potential talent, including peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards to improve productivity.
Work with leadership on department schedule writing to support team member engagement, customer service, store sales, and profitability.
Monitor execution of rotation and dating policies to ensure product freshness.
Guide the team in complying with food safety standards and regulations and working safely in alignment with 200% accountability.
Lead team members in completing ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product display, where applicable.
Create an environment that supports Meijer culture, including valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Operate a register and handle cash when needed.
Operate powered equipment, where applicable.
Participate in period-end inventories, where applicable, to help achieve goals.
Act in a Lead capacity in other store departments when required.
