About The Position

To enhance the correctional programs of the Commonwealth of Virginia by operating a viable business entity that provides jobs and work skills for sentences inmates to help them successfully re-enter society, and offers quality goods and services to our customers, on time and at a fair price. Leads the supervision of an apparel manufacturing plant inside a prison and documents processes to ensure quality products are delivered on time. Responsible for staff and inmate worker development, inventory control, effective safety practices, and preventive maintenance. Serves as the plant liaison with both the institution and VCE administration. If hired by VCE you will start or restart a 12-month probationary period. This is for all New Hires', Transfers, returning State Employees.

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team in the production and quality of manufactured goods under the pressure of tight deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others to achieve production goals.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work independently to motivate others attain production goals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to make technical recommendations.
  • Ability to develop job specifications and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently in complex work situations and under the pressure of tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage safe work practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable experience and proficiency in apparel processes, equipment operation, and quality controls.
  • Proficiency with MRP/ERP system or other manufacturing specialty applications.
  • Certification in Total Quality Management, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other quality program certification.
