Assists in carrying out routine aspects of various physical therapy treatments and procedures predetermined by and under the direction of, the Registered Physical Therapist. Assists with processing of department paperwork and projects. Performs various receptionist and related scheduling and registering functions for outpatient at Rehab Dynamics locations including co pay collection. Assists therapists with patient care and workflow.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Good clerical/office skills.
  • Physical agility, including but not limited to, ambulating including prolonged walking and mobility within the Hospital setting, sitting, prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching, and looking at a computer monitor for periods throughout the work day.
  • Ability to verbalize so that the average person can comprehend.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and execute written and oral instructions.
  • Basic Math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clerical support/secretarial duties.
  • Assists with routine processing of departmental paperwork including posting daily schedules, departmental paperwork utilized on a daily basis.
  • Answers incoming calls, takes messages and relays information to appropriate personnel and sets up patient appointments.
  • Maintains current inventory for outside vendors on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Obtains insurance information and required signatures from new patients.
  • Faxes reports and patent referrals to requested area with concern for patient confidentiality.
  • Collects co-pays from appropriate clients on a regular basis, and documents payment.
  • Performs additional related duties and tasks as assigned.
  • Provides effective interpersonal communication.
  • Keeps physical therapists informed of patients’ condition before, during, and following treatment.
  • Brings any unusual developments to the therapist's attention.
  • Communicates effectively to patients, therapists, and other co-workers in a clear and non-judgmental manner.
  • Asks therapists for help in a clear and concise manner.
  • Communicates effectively to patients clearly and concisely the tasks to be completed.
  • Uses appropriate non-verbal communication avoiding inappropriate body language or facial expressions with all employees and customers.
  • Assists Physical Therapist.
  • Completes all daily cleaning duties.
  • Maintains proper inventory of laundry supply.
  • Maintains general maintenance and cleaning of all equipment.
  • Advises proper authority/department of equipment malfunctioning.
  • Contact the laundry department regarding problems with laundry delivery.
  • Appropriately sets up all clients including hot packs, cold packs, and exercise equipment.
  • Ensures proper setup including proper layering of towels/pillowcases.
  • Provides the patient with a safety call bell and periodically checks on the patient.
  • Sets a timer and communicates to the therapist when the patient setup is completed.
  • Maintains clean clinical areas following treatment sessions in a timely manner.
  • Maintains constant flow of clients by being aware of patient appointment times and arrival of patients.
  • Checks for patient arrivals independently and does not rely on clerical staff to announce patients presence.
  • Communicates changes in daily clinic schedule to the appropriate therapist including additions, cancellations, no shows and rescheduled appointments.
  • Demonstrates good time management of daily duties and prioritizes multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Appropriately asks and accepts assistance when needed.
  • Appropriately notes repetitions including number of sets/reps and weight and time tolerated.
  • Uses proper exercise training techniques as taught in PT aide in-house training program while carrying out patient exercise programs.
  • Checks on patients periodically while on exercise equipment or during exercise programs to ensure proper form and monitor any problems.
  • Communicates to the therapist difficulty level of the program and appropriately suggests any changes in regiment.
