About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) serves as a primary contact for Safeway customers, providing friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary operating decisions to support profitability, efficiency, and customer service. The PIC generally supervises store employees when in charge, often at night, and may work in various store departments. The role also performs Cashier-Checker duties.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service according to company procedures and policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents appropriately.
Supervise store personnel when management is absent.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Monitor the sales floor for customer service and product replenishment.
Restock displays around the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe store environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register, receive customer payments, and provide correct change.
Bag groceries and lift bags into grocery carts.
Offer carry-out assistance and perform carry-out tasks when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
Complete the office close-of-day function when required.
Count out-of-stock product when required.
Count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
