About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary point of contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary decisions to operate it efficiently, profitably, and with superior customer service. When in charge, generally at night, the PIC supervises store employees. The role also performs Cashier-Checker duties and may require working in multiple store departments.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer-service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer-service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service according to employer standards and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents appropriately.
Supervise store personnel during the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Supervise the sales floor, monitoring customer service and product replenishment.
Replace stock in displays surrounding the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe store environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronic scanning cash register, total purchases, accept payment, and provide correct change.
Bag groceries and lift bags into grocery carts.
Offer carryout assistance and provide it when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete the office close-of-day function.
May count out-of-stock product and count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
