The Person In Charge (PIC) exemplifies and ensures strong customer service and directs and controls the Front End in the absence of store management to achieve sales and profit objectives. As a primary contact for customers, the PIC provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary decisions to operate it efficiently, profitably, and with superior customer service. When in charge—generally at night—the PIC supervises store employees. The PIC also performs Cashier-Checker duties and may be required to work in many store departments. The role includes responding appropriately to emergencies, complaints, and accidents; supervising personnel; monitoring customer service and product replenishment; helping maintain a clean and safe store; assisting cashiers with equipment issues; performing basic office functions; operating a cash register; processing payments and making change; bagging groceries; and helping customers carry out purchases when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable. The PIC may also complete end-of-day office functions, count out-of-stock products, and count tills. The work is primarily indoors, with rare outdoor work. The position involves standing constantly, walking frequently, handling and grasping items and performing repetitive motions constantly, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items at varying weights and frequencies. The job is safety-sensitive. The stated pay range is $17.38 to $22.71 per hour, subject to local minimum wage and variation based on factors including location, experience, qualifications, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
