About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) provides friendly, courteous, and helpful customer service as a primary customer contact. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary operating decisions to support profitability, efficiency, and superior customer service. When in charge—generally at night—the PIC supervises store employees. The role also performs Cashier-Checker duties and may require working in various store departments. The PIC handles customer purchases at an electronically scanning cash register, accepts payment, gives correct change, bags groceries, and assists customers with carry-out when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable. The role also supports store operations through supervising the sales floor, maintaining checkout-area stock, assisting cashiers with equipment problems, performing basic office functions, and helping maintain a clean and safe work environment. Closing-day functions, out-of-stock counts, and till counts may also be assigned. The job is performed primarily indoors, with rare outdoor work. The position involves regular standing and walking, frequent handling and repetitive motions, customer and employee interaction, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items of varying weights. It is safety-sensitive. The listed duties and requirements may vary by store, and reasonable accommodation is available for qualified individuals with disabilities who can meet the overall job requirements.
