The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary customer contact who provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. In the absence of the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make decisions needed to operate it efficiently, profitably, and with superior customer service. When in charge—generally at night—the PIC supervises store employees. The PIC also performs Cashier-Checker duties and may be required to work in various store departments. The role includes customer service, responding to emergencies and complaints, supervising store personnel, monitoring sales-floor service and product replenishment, assisting with checkout and register issues, and performing basic office functions. Cashier duties include operating a scanning register, processing payments and change, bagging groceries, and helping customers carry purchases when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable. The PIC may also perform end-of-day office functions, count out-of-stock product, or count tills. The position is performed almost entirely inside, with rare work outside. The job involves standing, walking, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling, repetitive handling and grasping, and frequent interaction with customers and coworkers. The role is safety-sensitive. Pay is listed as $27.85 per hour, but will be no less than the local minimum wage; starting rates vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and applicable collective bargaining agreements. Benefits may depend on length of service, hours worked, and applicable agreements.
