About The Position

Cermaq Canada is seeking a People & Payroll Administrator to join their People & Culture Department for a full-time, 12-month contract role. This position will support the team during a period of business transition. Cermaq is an international salmon farming company with over 3500 employees across Chile, Canada, and Norway, focused on growing nutritious seafood for a global market. The role is based in the Campbell River office and reports to the Human Resource Director. The administrator will act as the support or 'hub' for the P&C team, handling a variety of tasks.

Requirements

  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and multi-tasking abilities to manage changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to complete Excel formulas over multiple tabs, pivot tables, v-lookups, and filters, and analyze data for errors or omissions.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required due to occasional regional travel to other worksites on Vancouver Island and in-town movement to the warehouse.
  • Recent payroll processing experience using a computerized payroll system.
  • Knowledge of the BC Employment Standards Act and Federal regulations that govern provincial employees.
  • Human Resources experience or education in a medium to large size organization as an administrator or generalist.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is considered an asset but not required; the company is willing to train the right person.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the People & Culture team for employee life cycle management, including recruitment, orientation, performance management, employee recognition, training & development, and progressive discipline.
  • Manage employee access and set-up on various internal IT systems.
  • Manage department projects or participate on project teams focused on employee relations and experience.
  • Track, audit, and continually improve HR processes with the team.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives such as recognition and employee events.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership by participating in the safety program and supporting it with department actions.
  • Administer bi-weekly pay, bonuses, and payroll from timesheet submission through commitment and reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Act as a technical resource for managers and employees for all payroll and benefit-related matters.
  • Administer group benefit enrollments, including adding family members and making updates within the benefit provider’s web portal.
  • Prepare various payroll reports, including vacation reports, overtime reports, and Finance reports by Employee/department/labour costs, by downloading information and completing analysis in Excel.
  • Seek opportunities to continually improve payroll and benefit processes for greater service, transparency, and efficiency.
