About The Position

Cache County is accepting applications for our Payroll Administrator position. The Payroll Administrator is responsible for managing all aspects of the payroll process, ensuring that employees' salaries and wages are calculated accurately, paid on time, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Administrator is a full-time, benefited position, primarily working Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All benefits start on the first day!

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or related field
  • Three (3) years of responsible experience related to the above duties, preferably in governmental accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Processes biweekly payroll - records employee work hours; calculates employee earnings; calculates employee withholdings (i.e., state taxes, federal taxes, social security, retirement, and insurance); monitors year-to-date records of wages, deductions, taxes, and benefits; prepares and submits various reports related to wages, retirement, and benefits by the deadline.
  • Oversees the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts.
  • Maintains payroll files, ensuring accurate collection, calculation, and entry of data while maintaining confidentiality. Balance payroll accounts, resolve discrepancies, and address other payroll-related issues that may arise. Coordinate with HR staff to inform employees of payroll policies, procedures, and practices, and to respond to payroll questions.
  • Reconcile and prepare state and federal tax payments; prepare and file state and federal payroll tax reports and returns; correct payroll journal entries as needed; monitor changes in tax laws as needed to ensure compliance with applicable laws. Research and stay up to date on tax laws and regulations, including payroll withholding procedures. Processes W-2s, garnishments, and recovery services orders
  • Prepare the URS census and other reports and submit them to the appropriate authority for final review.
  • Ensure continuity of payroll; provide comprehensive, ongoing training for payroll backup; coordinate recurring payroll tasks assigned to HR or others; and monitor completeness and accuracy.
