About The Position
Peer Tutors are current MCC students who work with other students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.
Requirements
- Current MCC Student
- At least one faculty reference from MCC Chemistry Department faculty, which must be obtained by way of faculty completion of the "Faculty Reference Form."
- MCC course transcripts with As or Bs in the courses for which they wish to tutor
- Technology savvy
Responsibilities
- Foster the development of independent, intentional learners
- Help students understand and use effective learning strategies
- Provide tutor assistance in Chemistry in one-on-one and group settings
- Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
- Attend training activities to comply with tutoring requirements and expectations before and/or during semesters
- Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook
- Promote critical thinking and problem solving
- Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content
- Collaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on providing workshops to fill learning gaps of both tutors and students with discipline specific content.
- Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring services
- Assisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned
