Pediatric Home Care Nurse - RN
About The Position
Interim HealthCare is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialized in-home care for a 13-year-old boy with Nemaline Myopathy and Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. The patient is ventilator-dependent through a tracheotomy, receives nutrition and medications through a GJ tube, and uses an eye-gaze communication device and wheelchair. Care must be exceptionally gentle, attentive, and safety-focused due to severe osteoporosis and joint contractures. The nurse monitors respiratory equipment and the patient’s condition; provides tracheostomy care, suctioning, tube feedings, medications, and respiratory treatments; assists with hygiene and personal care; and maintains the patient’s comfort, dignity, and safety. The position offers PRN and part-time opportunities in Sioux Falls, with set day and overnight schedules available.
Requirements
- At least one year of pediatric nursing experience.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota, as applicable to the position.
- Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator care.
- Familiarity with GJ tube feedings and medication administration.
- Experience with pediatric respiratory care, including nebulizers and cough assist equipment.
- Ability to provide gentle, attentive care to a patient with complex medical and physical needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a non-speaking individual using assistive technology.
- Current CPR certification is required; on-site CPR certification is available for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
- Monitor ventilator function and pulse oximeter readings throughout the shift.
- Perform tracheostomy suctioning as needed.
- Provide routine tracheostomy care and cleaning.
- Administer GJ tube feedings and medications as prescribed.
- Operate cough assist equipment to help manage respiratory secretions.
- Administer respiratory treatments, including nebulizers and inhalers.
- Assist with hygiene routines, including showering as applicable to the assigned shift.
- Provide repositioning and incontinence care as needed.
- Monitor the patient’s condition and respond appropriately to changes.
- Maintain the patient’s comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the shift.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively using the patient’s assistive communication technology.
