About The Position

The PBX Operator answers and routes incoming calls to hospital departments, physicians, and staff. The operator assists visitors and callers with information and directions, and handles emergency calls by connecting them to response teams or on-call personnel. The role monitors the telephone system, reports malfunctions to technical support, and maintains accurate call logs and messages. It also supports communications during hospital emergencies or critical events and ensures compliance with hospital policies and confidentiality requirements. This is a per diem, as-needed position at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Shifts are variable across days, mids, nights, and overnight, with 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires).
Previous experience in an office or receptionist role.
Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

Previous PBX experience.
Customer service experience.
