About The Position

This role is responsible for various aspects of patient check-in and check-out processes within the SCMG Scotland Nephrology department. Key duties include accurately completing patient registrations in EPIC, verifying demographics, screening insurance eligibility, and handling self-pay applications. The specialist will also perform patient reminder calls, manage incoming calls, assist with scheduling, rescheduling, and medication refill requests, and generate no-show letters. On the check-out side, responsibilities include scheduling follow-up appointments, referrals, and ancillary services, returning phone messages, distributing faxes, completing referral work queues, ensuring patients receive after-visit summaries, and completing work notes. Additional duties involve collecting co-pays and co-insurance, managing daily deposits and reconciliation, handling patient documentation, transcribing orders, entering referral orders, and completing prior authorizations.

  • High school diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems independently.
  • Excellent in verbal and communication skills.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in healthcare administration or equivalent college coursework
  • Previous Medical Office experience

Responsibilities

  • Accurately completes EPIC registration for each patient, verifying and updating demographics.
  • Screens for insurance eligibility and scans correct insurance cards.
  • Offers SPN Sliding Fee application for Self-Pay patients and ensures acknowledgement is signed.
  • Ensures E-sign Consent for treatment and insurance authorization is completed if due.
  • Performs Patient reminder calls and handles live calls for appointment reminders.
  • Greets patients and answers phones in a kind, courteous tone.
  • Assists patients with scheduling and rescheduling appointments.
  • Creates inbox messages as needed to assist patients, including refill requests.
  • Identifies RED words.
  • Performs scheduling for Walk Ins.
  • Generates no show letters through EPIC.
  • Schedules follow up appointments, referrals, and ancillary services as directed by EPIC provider orders.
  • Returns phone messages and assists patients.
  • Distributes land line faxes to appropriate Clerical and Clinical Teammates.
  • Completes appropriate referral work ques.
  • Ensures Patient receives AVS (after visit summary).
  • Completes work notes as directed by provider.
  • Collects copays and coinsurance as applicable at Check out or Check in.
  • Completes standard work for daily deposit and reconciliation.
  • Manages ON Base Patient Documentation Application.
  • Transcribes orders/Enters Referral Orders.
  • Schedules Incoming referrals by practice protocols.
  • Completes Prior Authorizations as required.
