About The Position

The Patient Services Representative is the initial point of contact for front office activity and helps direct patient flow at a physician office. The role performs patient check-ins and appointment scheduling, maintains patient financial records, and may serve as a switchboard operator as needed. The position is with BJC Medical Group in Columbia, Illinois, in an outpatient setting. It is full-time, 40 hours per week, on day shift, and is benefit eligible. The position does not require call, weekend, or holiday work.

BJC Medical Group is the multi-specialty physician organization of BJC HealthCare, with more than 600 doctors and advanced practice providers affiliated with area hospitals. Its physicians serve patients across more than 125 locations in the greater St. Louis, mid-Missouri, and southern Illinois areas.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–5 years of experience.

Nice To Haves

• Medical office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle telephone calls from patients and staff, forwarding calls that require triage.
• Perform receptionist duties with attention to detail and professionalism.
• Verify health insurance payment information and educate patients about applicable regulations.
• Collect payments and record data.
• Enter service charges, including assigning diagnostic codes and entering physician- and clinic-related charges.
• Coordinate information with the Central Billing Office to ensure charges are captured and properly collected.
• Perform patient check-ins and appointment scheduling.
• Maintain patient financial records.
• Serve as a switchboard operator as needed.
• Help direct patient flow at the physician office.
