About The Position

The Patient Service Representative supports the service area by checking patients in and out of appointments and consistently demonstrates exemplary customer service when assisting patients and guests. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values and follows its Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, applicable policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Zero to two years of experience in a customer service position.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Bilingual.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and guests, confirm their identity, and provide information related to their visit.
• Complete check-in and check-out functions as directed.
• Confirm and update patient identification, demographic, and insurance information.
• Complete patient registration as needed.
• Obtain patient consents and authorizations.
• Collect co-payments, past-due balances, and point-of-service payments.
• Post payments, process billing information, and perform end-of-day cash drawer closing.
• Keep the waiting area clean and comfortable.
• Inform patients of delays or changes in appointment status.
• Schedule appointments as necessary.
• For Patient Service Representatives in Immediate Care Clinics, float to other Immediate Care Clinics or departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
