About The Position

Esse Health is seeking a full-time Patient Service Representative for its West County Internal Medicine office at 1585 Woodlake Drive in Chesterfield. This is a benefit-eligible position in an outpatient clinical practice, with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are no nights, weekends, or holidays. The representative is highly visible to patients and is expected to project a positive office image through enthusiastic greetings, a friendly demeanor, and upbeat interactions with patients and coworkers.

Requirements

• Formal training, probably indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience working with the public; healthcare experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of different types of health insurance plans, such as HMOs and PPOs.
• PC/Windows proficiency.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work compatibly with physicians, coworkers, and employees in other departments.
• Ability to maintain a positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor with patients and coworkers.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with the public in a healthcare setting.
• Medical coding familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient check-in and check-out.
• Schedule patient appointments.
• Collect co-payments.
• Verify insurance.
• Register patients and update patient demographics.
• Answer the telephone.
• Balance monies at the end of the day.
• Enter physician-related charges into the computer when required.
• Bill hospital or nursing home charges when required.
• Prioritize patient comfort and satisfaction in interactions.
