Patient Scheduler I
About The Position
This position pre-registers and schedules patients for appointments, procedures, tests, and other services in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. The scheduler answers incoming calls, completes follow-up and referral work queues, and ticket scheduling. The role communicates with patient care teams as needed to support efficient and appropriate patient care. The scheduler completes patient checkout, arranges follow-up appointments according to physician orders, and provides patients with cost estimates and itineraries for upcoming appointments. Level I Patient Schedulers are expected to be proficient in scheduling multiple service lines within the same market and one service line across Essentia Health, and are cross-trained to provide coverage as needed.
Requirements
- Complete designated HBI courses within one year of hire.
- Be proficient in scheduling multiple service lines within the same market and one service line across Essentia Health.

- Previous patient access representative or scheduling experience.
Responsibilities
- Identify, register, and schedule patients; provide after-visit summaries with estimates; complete patient checkout; schedule appointments, procedures, and lab services; and obtain required patient signatures and documents.
- Fully pre-register patients calling to schedule appointments, including updating guarantor information and verifying insurance eligibility.
- Coordinate patient services, including ancillary and procedure scheduling.
- Handle incoming calls, follow-up and referral work queues, and ticket scheduling.
- Accurately enter data into the permanent electronic health record while speaking with patients.
- Work with support and clinical staff as part of a care team to provide optimal customer service and clinical outcomes.
- Schedule follow-up appointments according to physician orders and provide cost estimates and itineraries for upcoming appointments.
- Cross-train and provide scheduling coverage as needed.
