Patient Safety Attendant

About The Position

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and with the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) performs nursing-related services for pediatric through geriatric patients requiring increased monitoring beyond what general unit staff can provide. This position is part of the Internal Resource Pool and floats to multiple units as needed. The PSA remains in the assigned patient's room, stays attentive to the patient's safety needs, notifies professional staff of the patient's needs, and alerts them in an emergency. The PSA documents on the observation flow sheet and assists licensed nursing staff with care as delegated. The position supports a safe environment for patients who are suicidal, on administrative hold, pediatric patients not boarded in a secured area and/or at risk of harm, impulsive, self-injurious, cognitively impaired or confused, or unsteady on their feet. The PSA works collaboratively with all unit members, including the patient and family, and is a vital component of patient care.
