About The Position

Loyola MacNeal has an opportunity for a Patient Safety Attendant to join the Clinical Resource Unit at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. The team includes registered nurses, patient care techs, care managers, social workers, residents, and physicians who provide compassionate care to the community.

Patient Safety Attendants support care delivery on the nursing unit by ensuring patient safety in a one-to-one environment. They perform constant, direct observation of patients at risk of harming themselves or others, including confused or impulsive patients whose behavior may impede care delivery. The role requires courteous interaction with patients, effective communication with family members, and collaboration with hospital staff at all levels.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.

Nice To Haves

• 1–2 years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one, constant and direct observation of patients with suicidal ideation and patients at risk of harming themselves or others.
• Assist assigned registered nurses and/or patient care techs with patients’ comfort and hygiene needs, including toileting, ambulation, position changes, hair care, and feeding.
• Maintain direct patient observation during all patient activities, including toileting and transportation.
• Assist with patient ambulation and transfer or transport procedures as appropriate.
• Complete required documentation and communicate competently and effectively to meet patient and family needs and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, employee, and department information to ensure patient rights.
• Use time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
