The Patient Registrar is responsible for interviewing patients and/or their representatives to gather necessary information for the registration process within the hospital information system. This role ensures the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of the automated database. The Patient Registrar also coordinates and communicates registration activities with various hospital departments to support effective patient care. They initiate and maintain organized files, contact patients and insurers to obtain necessary information for reimbursement, verify benefits, and obtain required pre-certifications. This position plays a key role in ensuring maximum reimbursement for the hospital and maintaining knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Additionally, the Patient Registrar processes admissions, discharges, and transfers, explains and processes patient payments, and provides essential information regarding healthcare directives and financial matters. They are expected to provide excellent service to all individuals they interact with and may also be involved in scheduling patient visits and performing other assigned duties.
