The Patient Navigator is a full-time ACC AmeriCorps service position with Boston Medical Center in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Division. Under the supervision and direction of clinical and program staff, the Member provides nonclinical, staff-approved education and navigation support to help underserved communities access fertility care. The role includes coordinating appointments and recommended tests, helping patients address barriers to completing infertility evaluations, and connecting them with program-approved hospital and community resources. The Member helps develop and refine navigation workflows and educational resources, and tracks patient engagement and evaluation progress using hospital-approved systems and authorized information. The Member may also assist with staff-led exploration of technology, including AI, to enhance navigation services, subject to hospital policies and approved procedures. The Member does not provide medical advice, perform clinical duties, interpret test results, recommend tests, make clinical decisions, or provide abortion services or referrals for abortion services. Clinical staff retain responsibility for all clinical decisions, advice, testing recommendations, and patient care. Service activities must follow applicable AmeriCorps requirements, the approved award, and patient confidentiality, privacy, and information-security procedures. The Member’s service supplements rather than displaces paid employees or existing volunteers and does not duplicate locally available services. Performance goals include supporting 50–75 patients, developing or refining educational resources and workflows, and contributing to quarterly and end-of-service program evaluations. Activities and progress are documented according to program procedures and reviewed by the supervisor. The service term is December 7, 2026, through August 13, 2027, with approximately 40 hours per week and 1,200 total service hours. Members receive structured training and support, including a week-long virtual national orientation, a week-long in-person Winter Institute with travel, lodging, and per diem covered, twice-monthly virtual trainings, self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials, a community listening tour, dedicated one-to-one support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator, twice-monthly peer pod meetings, and access to a national network of Members, alumni, and community partners.
