About The Position

At Bridgeport Hospital, the Patient Escort supports coordinated, patient-centered care as part of the patient care team. Under the direction of the Service Response Center Supervisor, this position transports patients to diagnostic departments and from Admitting to patient units, transports urology discharges, and assists nursing staff with transferring patients to and from transport vehicles. The role administers nasal oxygen when required and transports lab specimens, medical records, and flowers. It also delivers oxygen tanks and Operating Room schedules to patient units.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required for candidates hired on or after 05/01/2004.
• Must be able to read and speak English.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Successful completion of hospital orientation.
• Successful completion of department orientation.
• Must be able to perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Physical requirements include using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching; standing and walking; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and regularly lifting or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Required vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• One year of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper and safe patient transportation to all areas.
• Enforce department safety policies and procedures to help assure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
• Complete oxygen rounds as assigned, following the oxygen rounds sheets.
• Transport patients to diagnostic departments and from Admitting to patient units, including urology discharges.
• Assist nursing staff in transferring patients to and from transport vehicles.
• Administer nasal oxygen when required.
• Transport lab specimens, medical records, and flowers.
• Deliver oxygen tanks and Operating Room schedules to patient units.
