About The Position

The ER Tech works in the Trinity Health Ann Arbor Emergency Department, a 64-bed unit that provides comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages and treats approximately 85,000 patients annually. The department treats acute conditions, minor injuries, and illnesses, and provides specialized pediatric and geriatric care. The role provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse, taking into account patients’ age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. The ER Tech helps maintain a clean, safe environment conducive to patient and family wellbeing, using relationship-based care. Training is provided. The position is located at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital and offers 12-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Full-time status is 36 hours per week; part-time status is 24 hours per week. Every other weekend and every other holiday per year are required for both full-time and part-time colleagues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of previous direct care experience in an acute or long-term care setting, or successful completion of a CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed the nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding or menu selection.
• Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
• Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
• Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
• Help establish and maintain a clean, safe patient care environment that supports patient and family wellbeing.
