About The Position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Observation Unit at Deaconess Gateway supports nurses and other healthcare professionals in delivering patient-centered care. The 32-bed unit evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients who need short-term monitoring, with typical stays of 8 to 24 hours. The role offers exposure to a variety of diagnoses and conditions in a fast-paced environment and contributes to patients’ comfort, safety, and positive outcomes.
Requirements
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification within six months of hire.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal care, including bathing, oral hygiene, toileting, and linen changes.
- Support patient mobility, repositioning, transfers, and ambulation.
- Monitor and document vital signs and patient observations.
- Accurately record important patient information in medical records.
- Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients and their families.
- Work with nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary care teams to support patient care and care transitions.
