Patient Care Technician - Stepdown (PCT) - Gateway
About The Position
As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), you’ll work closely with nurses to provide hands-on care and support to patients in the Stepdown unit. The role includes assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, vital signs, and patient chart documentation, as well as providing compassionate support to patients nearing the end of life. The position involves exposure to bodily fluids and dynamic, sensitive situations. The 19-bed unit cares for ICU-level neuroscience and medical patients. The Neuro ICU patient population includes patients undergoing cranial surgery and neuro-endovascular procedures, patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, and patients with other medical conditions requiring intensive care. Deaconess Gateway Hospital is designated as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider certification within six months of hire.
- Completion of high school education or equivalent (GED) is preferred.
- Successfully complete PCT classes as required by the care center or unit.
- Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Compassionate, resilient, and detail-oriented.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, brushing teeth, toileting, and changing linens.
- Help patients with mobility, repositioning, and transfers.
- Monitor and record vital signs.
- Document important information in patient charts.
- Provide compassionate care, including support for patients nearing the end of life.
- Provide care to patients in the unit while working closely with nurses.
