About The Position
The Patient Care Tech provides direct care to adult and geriatric patients under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse. The role includes assisting with hygiene, food and fluid needs, mobility, vital signs, and blood glucose monitoring, along with housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, clean environment. Care must be delivered safely, skillfully, accurately, and efficiently, with attention to patients’ rights and cultural, ethical, and religious diversity. The position follows hospital policies and procedures, standard precautions, and infection-control standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification required.
Nice To Haves
- Current Nurse Assistant certification by the State of Illinois; documentation of previous Nurse Assistant certification within the past five years; and/or documentation of on-the-job training in a patient care setting equivalent to nurse assistant training.
- Experience in long-term care, rehabilitation, and/or medical-surgical care.
Responsibilities
- Admit, discharge, and transfer patients and complete appropriate forms.
- Provide for patient hygiene.
- Provide for patients’ food and fluid needs.
- Assist patients with mobility.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Maintain a safe environment of care.
- Provide appropriate pressure ulcer prevention.
- Perform finger-stick blood glucose monitoring under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide age-appropriate and population-specific care safely, skillfully, accurately, and efficiently, primarily to adult and geriatric populations.
- Support patients’ rights and responsibilities, including respect for cultural, ethical, and religious diversity.
- Adhere to standard precautions and infection-control standards.
- Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, clean environment.
