About The Position

Provides direct patient care, including treatments and diagnostic studies as directed by a Registered Nurse, and other support services based on patient needs as a care delivery team member. Uses effective and appropriate communication and supports unit and hospital goals. The role is based in the Emergency Room at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton, onsite, on the night shift, with three 12-hour shifts per week and every other weekend.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months of recent experience providing direct patient care activities, including treatments and/or diagnostic studies, or successful completion of LVHN's inexperienced technical partner course.
• Ability to follow direction and provide accurate reports.
• Attainment and maintenance of unit-specific competencies.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
• Basic computer skills.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for Pennsylvania within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and related activities for designated patients using a patient- and family-centered approach and established policies and procedures.
• Observe patients and communicate findings, changes, or problems to the RN.
• Communicate effectively with patients, significant others, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues using appropriate verbal and non-verbal styles.
• Support unit-based patient experience goals and hospital goals and objectives as a department team member.
• Participate in the orientation of new staff as assigned.
• Perform validated technical skills based on clinical specialty and unit practice.
• Use technology to optimize alternative modes of care delivery.
• Complete quality control checks on designated unit equipment, if applicable.
• Conduct patient rounds as assigned, anticipate patient needs, and promptly respond to patient call lights or pages.
