About The Position

Provides direct patient care, including treatments and diagnostic studies as directed by a Registered Nurse, and other support services based on patient needs as a member of the care delivery team. Uses effective and appropriate communication and supports unit and hospital goals and objectives. The position is onsite in the Emergency Room at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton, on the night shift, with three 12-hour shifts per week and every other weekend.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months of recent experience directly providing patient care activities, including treatments and/or diagnostic studies, or successful completion of LVHN's inexperienced technical partner course.
• Ability to follow direction and provide accurate reports.
• Attain and maintain unit-specific competencies.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
• Basic computer skills.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support – State of Pennsylvania, required within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and related activities for designated patients using a patient- and family-centered approach and following established policies and procedures.
• Observe patients and communicate findings, changes, or problems to the Registered Nurse.
• Use effective verbal and non-verbal communication with patients, significant others, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues.
• Support unit-based patient experience goals and hospital goals and objectives as a department team member.
• Participate in orienting new staff when assigned.
• Perform validated technical skills based on clinical specialty and unit practice.
• Use technology to optimize alternative modes of care delivery.
• Complete quality control checks on designated unit equipment, if applicable.
• Conduct assigned patient rounds, anticipate patient needs, and respond promptly to patient call lights or pages.
