Patient Care Navigator

Oula•Charlotte, NC
•Onsite

About The Position

Oula is hiring a Patient Care Navigator to serve as patients’ point of contact between visits. The navigator follows OB patients from their first visit through postpartum and helps ensure tests, scans, referrals, and visits happen on time. For GYN patients, the role closes the loop on results, referrals, procedures, and positive pregnancy tests. The navigator works on site alongside midwives, OBs, medical assistants, and front-desk staff, with success measured by whether patients complete their next steps. The role does not involve giving medical advice, assessing symptoms, or sharing or interpreting results. Clinical questions must be recognized and routed to the appropriate clinician using approved protocols. The position may also cover medical assistant or front-desk duties during planned absences.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient clinical setting; certification is preferred.
  • Ability to work fully on site.
  • Strong organization and follow-through across a large patient caseload.
  • Clear, warm communication with patients by phone, message, and in person.
  • Comfort working in an EMR and patient portal.

Nice To Haves

  • Current medical assistant certification (e.g., CCMA, CMA, RMA); certification is required in states that require it.
  • OB/GYN or women's health experience.
  • Experience in patient navigation, care coordination, or referral management.

Responsibilities

  • Contact each new OB patient within two business days of the first visit to introduce yourself and confirm next steps.
  • Track each patient on the caseload through pregnancy and ensure every checkpoint is completed.
  • Ensure tests, scans, and referrals are scheduled, completed, and returned to the provider.
  • Send hospital records ahead of delivery, capture delivery information, and book postpartum visits.
  • Hand patients off to ongoing GYN care at graduation.
  • Follow up on abnormal results and referrals until the visit, procedure, or report is complete.
  • Send procedure preparation instructions, confirm appointments, and rebook no-shows.
  • Read incoming portal messages, resolve administrative requests, and route clinical questions to a midwife, OB, or RN using approved protocols.
  • Contact patients who are lost to follow-up and clear that queue weekly.
  • Cover medical assistant or front-desk duties during planned absences.
  • Route clinical matters to the appropriate clinician; do not provide medical advice, assess symptoms, or share or interpret results.
