About The Position

The Patient Representative for the Tulane Medicine 340B Alexandria functions as the Patient Liaison, providing an avenue of communication between patients, referring physician’s clinic contacts, and clinic physicians/providers. The Patient Representative ensures timely response to phone calls from patients, patient families and referring physicians; serves to prioritize nature of phone calls and assess insurance status; arranges reminder calls for patients and coordinates patient scheduling for the clinic; provides necessary office files, requests outside medical records, and coordinates release of medical records; ensures emergency phone calls are directed to the appropriate physician and nurse immediately; participates in patient satisfaction, quality of care, and marketing surveys; and interfaces the office staff in terms of cross-coverage when someone is away. The patient representative is also responsible for verifying insurance and collecting co-pays. Working collaboratively in a team environment is a crucial element of this position.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of office equipment: fax, copier, multi-line phone system, voicemail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong customer service/patient relation skills.
  • Strong communication skills - ability to enhance operations, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work on multiple tasks with multiple groups independently and concurrently.
  • Ability to present oneself and one’s ideas with clarity, confidence, and poise.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
  • Ability to interact professionally with individuals.
  • High School Diploma/Equivalent
  • Two (2) years’ customer service experience

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Prior experience in a clinic/healthcare setting.
  • Prior experience with electronic medical records.
