About The Position

Visiting Angels of Birmingham is hiring a Patient Care Aide - PCA to support senior adults and home-care clients throughout the local area, including Calera, Birmingham, Saginaw, Montevallo, Alabaster, and Pelham. The role helps clients remain at home or recover at home with dignity. Visits vary by client and may involve household support, meal preparation, mobility assistance, companionship, and help with daily routines. Aides must respond appropriately to medical emergencies and report health changes or unusual circumstances.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent time-management skills.
Reliable transportation to client visits.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with basic housekeeping and cooking tasks.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
Training or knowledge in First Aid and emergency response.
Compassion and interest in providing meaningful companionship to vulnerable people.
Willingness to comply with state and office-specific health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Manage light housekeeping.
Encourage clients to meet exercise and fitness goals.
Prompt clients to take prescription medications at the appropriate times.
Help clients shop and put away groceries, or shop on their behalf.
Plan and prepare meals in collaboration with clients, based on their abilities.
Assist clients with mobility and ambulation, including moving around the home, visiting the doctor, and taking walks.
Respond quickly to medical emergencies.
Report health changes and unusual circumstances.
