About The Position

The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for submitting claims, analyzing payer denials, and problem-solving to resolve unpaid claims. This role also involves accurately and timely posting of payments from payers. The position requires adherence to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc. and embraces the philosophy, mission, values, and Communicate with Heart service model.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • One year medical billing experience required
  • Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, HMO/PPO’s, and/or other Third Party Payers
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance as required by law.
  • Ability to understand verbal information/instruction.
  • Ability to exchange verbal information with others.
  • Ability to present information verbally.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials.
  • Ability to compose information/instruction in written form.
  • Ability to reason mathematically.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding helpful.
  • Ability to speak Spanish helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Submitting daily electronic claims and paper claims to clearinghouse and insurance payers.
  • Filing all applicable insurance forms for Center’s patients.
  • Processing appeals, refund requests, and inquiries.
  • Making necessary adjustments to accounts to comply with PCHC programs and insurance carriers.
  • Analyzing account balances to accurately bill patients for balance due.
  • Assisting patients with billing questions.
  • Reviewing insurance aging reports to identify unpaid claims for resolution.
  • Arranging payment schedules with patients for collection of past due accounts.
  • Informing Patient Account Manager of any noncompliance issues.
  • Assisting in training of new Patient Accounts Representatives and participating in cross-training.
  • Participating in department and General Staff Meetings.
  • Working outstanding tasks for encounter resolution in the practice management system.
  • Making inquiries via telephone or payer website on patient encounters for payment resolution.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
