About The Position

The Patient Accounts Representative performs billing or collection activities for Patient Accounts. The role is responsible for the initial submission of third-party payer claims, or for follow-up and collection of third-party payer claims, self-pay accounts, or legal, liability, and workers’ compensation accounts. The work uses a variety of electronic systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two to three years of experience with insurance billing and/or claims follow-up in a hospital business office, physician’s office, or insurance billing environment, or relevant experience using billing and claims knowledge.
• Computer literacy and math aptitude.
• Ability to use a 10-key calculator, computer keyboard, and basic software applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD/CPT/HCPC coding.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform billing or collection activities for Patient Accounts.
• Submit third-party payer claims initially, or follow up on and collect third-party payer claims.
• Follow up on and collect self-pay accounts and legal, liability, or workers’ compensation accounts.
• Use a variety of electronic systems in the course of the work.
