About The Position
The Patient Access Technician (PAT) welcomes patients at a MultiCare Off-Campus Emergency Department and works closely with financial and clinical teams to create an optimum patient experience. MultiCare’s Off-Campus Emergency Departments provide neighborhood-focused emergency care across Washington, with experienced physicians, nurses and clinical teams delivering efficient, compassionate care in community locations. The role assures complete and accurate patient admissions and registrations in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. It also supports inpatient bed assignments and admissions, pre-admission processing, direct-admit reservations, patient interviews, eligibility verification and referrals for financial assistance as appropriate.
Requirements
- Graduate of a health vocational program such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance, or medical general.
- One year of admitting, billing, registration or customer service experience may be considered in lieu of the required education.
Responsibilities
- Assure complete and accurate patient admissions and registrations according to organizational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admissions, including armband placement, addressograph plates and required forms.
- Pre-admit scheduled inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission or registration process.
- Obtain direct-admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system to notify other areas.
- Conduct comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with patients, relatives or representatives to obtain relevant demographic, insurance and/or third-party liability information.
- Perform eligibility verification, resolve discrepancies, determine whether a financial assistance recommendation and application are needed, and refer to a Financial Counselor when necessary.
