About The Position

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) welcomes patients at one of MultiCare’s Off-Campus Emergency Departments and works closely with financial and clinical teams to create an optimum patient experience. The role is listed as OCED PAT Float, with a 0.01 FTE and variable schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. The position supports accurate, complete patient admissions and registrations in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. It also handles inpatient bed assignments and admissions, pre-admissions, direct-admit reservations, patient interviews, eligibility verification, discrepancy resolution, and referrals for financial assistance when appropriate.

Requirements

Graduate of a health vocational program such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance, or medical general.
One year of admitting, billing, registration, or customer service experience may be considered in lieu of the required education.

Responsibilities

Ensure complete and accurate patient admissions and registrations according to organization policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admissions, including armband placement, addressograph plate preparation, and completion of necessary forms.
Pre-admit scheduled inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and timely admission or registration process.
Obtain direct-admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system to notify other areas.
Conduct comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with patients, relatives, or representatives to obtain demographic, insurance, and third-party liability information.
Perform eligibility verification, resolve discrepancies, determine whether financial assistance may be needed, and refer patients to a Financial Counselor when necessary.
