About The Position

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) welcomes patients at one of MultiCare’s Off-Campus Emergency Departments and works closely with financial and clinical teams to support an optimal patient experience. The role is listed at 0.01 FTE with variable scheduling and 12-hour shifts. MultiCare’s Off-Campus Emergency Departments provide neighborhood-focused emergency care across Washington. These facilities are staffed by experienced physicians, nurses and clinical teams and provide efficient, compassionate care in community locations.

Requirements

Graduate of a health vocational program, such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance, or medical general; or one year of admitting, billing, registration or customer service experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Responsibilities

Ensure complete and accurate patient admissions and registrations in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admissions, including armband application, addressograph plate preparation and completion of required forms.
Pre-admit scheduled inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory patients to support a smooth and timely admission and registration process.
Obtain direct-admission information and enter reservations in the computer system to notify other areas.
Conduct bedside or telephone interviews with patients, relatives or representatives to collect demographic, insurance and third-party liability information.
Verify eligibility, resolve discrepancies, determine whether financial assistance may be appropriate, and refer patients to a Financial Counselor when necessary.
