About The Position

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) welcomes patients at a MultiCare Off-Campus Emergency Department and works closely with financial and clinical teams to support an optimal patient experience. MultiCare’s Off-Campus Emergency Departments provide neighborhood-focused emergency care at convenient locations across Washington, with experienced physicians, nurses and clinical teams. This position is listed at 0.01 FTE and works day shifts on a 12-hour schedule. The pay scale is $24.88–$37.85 USD; actual pay may depend on factors including skills, experience, certifications and education. If the position is associated with a union contract, pay reflects the applicable step based on experience.

Requirements

Graduate of a health vocational program such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance, or medical general.
One year of admitting, billing, registration or customer service experience may be considered in lieu of the required education.

Responsibilities

Ensure complete and accurate patient admissions and registrations in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admissions, including arm banding, addressograph plates and required forms.
Pre-admit scheduled inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory patients to support a smooth and timely admission or registration process.
Obtain direct-admission information and enter a reservation in the computer system to notify other areas.
Conduct comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with patients, relatives or representatives to obtain relevant demographic, insurance and third-party liability information.
Verify eligibility, resolve discrepancies, determine whether financial assistance should be recommended or an application completed, and refer to a Financial Counselor when needed.
