About The Position

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) welcomes patients at a MultiCare Off-Campus Emergency Department and works closely with financial and clinical teams to support an optimal patient experience. The position is responsible for accurate patient admissions and registrations in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. It also supports inpatient admissions, scheduled patient pre-admissions, direct-admit reservations, patient interviews, insurance eligibility verification, and referrals for financial assistance when needed.

Requirements

Graduate of a health vocational program such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance, or medical general.
One year of admitting, billing, registration, or customer service experience may be considered in lieu of the required education.

Responsibilities

Ensure patient admissions and registrations are complete and accurate in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admissions, including arm banding, addressograph plates, and required forms.
Pre-admit scheduled inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and timely admission or registration process.
Obtain direct-admit information and enter reservations in the computer system to notify other areas.
Conduct bedside or telephone interviews with patients, relatives, or representatives to obtain demographic, insurance, and third-party liability information.
Verify eligibility, resolve discrepancies, determine whether financial assistance may be appropriate, and refer patients to a Financial Counselor when necessary.
