Patient Access Specialist - Per Diem

About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Registration Supervisor, the Patient Access Specialist collects patient information and ensures patients are aware of network policies and procedures. The role interviews patients or their representatives and enters accurate, appropriate, and required information into a computer database. It also distributes information to ancillary departments and participates in performance improvement and CQI.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to type 40 words per minute.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in an office setting.
Experience with medical terminology and insurance.
Ability to communicate in additional languages.
Experience in a setting requiring excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

Interview patients or their representatives to obtain personal information or verify information already on file, including emergency contact numbers and insurance information.
Obtain signatures from incoming patients on Conditions of Access and Privacy forms.
Explain billing, the complaint process, patient rights, and HIPAA to patients or their representatives.
Distribute network-specific literature appropriately.
Collect and record payments, then forward them to Fiscal Services appropriately and by the next business day.
Know network financial policies and available services, and refer patients to a financial counselor when appropriate.
Communicate appropriately and clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and patients.
Participate in performance improvement and CQI.
Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental effectiveness and organizational performance in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision, and Shared Values.
