About The Position
At CHI Mercy Health, the Patient Access Scheduler schedules patients for hospital-based services. The role handles inbound calls and fax requests, makes outbound calls to schedule patients, pre-registers scheduled patients, and ensures required provider orders, referrals, and insurance requirements are obtained and accurately documented. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in a hospital environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of CPT/ICD-9 codes.
Nice To Haves
- One year of previous patient scheduling or patient access experience.
Responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments, exams, and visits accurately, promptly, and professionally.
- Pre-register patients by obtaining complete and accurate demographic, clinical, and insurance information.
- Verify insurance eligibility and identify authorization or referral requirements as applicable to scheduling.
- Provide patients with appointment details, preparation requirements, and required documentation instructions.
- Handle inbound calls and fax requests and make outbound calls to schedule patients.
- Ensure provider orders, referrals, and insurance requirements are obtained and documented accurately.
