About The Position

The Party Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events—within a Michaels store. The role creates a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for guests of all ages, demonstrates and instructs craft projects, performs face painting and other activities, and facilitates event add-ons. It also involves communicating with clients and store team members, completing event-related administrative tasks, adapting plans to client needs, and ensuring client satisfaction. Hosts set up, break down, and clean event spaces while upholding company cleanliness and safety standards. The role also supports the store’s customer experience and daily operations. Duties include helping customers find products and solutions, providing checkout service, promoting Rewards and private-label credit cards, assisting with online order pickup and ship-from-store processes, and supporting stocking, merchandise recovery, planograms, and store cleanliness. Party Hosts support shrink and safety programs, follow company procedures and policies, and are cross-trained in custom framing sales and production. Work takes place in a public retail store; some stock rooms may not be climate controlled, and some outdoor work may be required. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with guests of all ages and co-workers.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly.
Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create a fun, creative environment.
Demonstrate and instruct craft projects, perform face painting, and lead other activities.
Facilitate event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members.
Answer emails and phone calls and complete event paperwork as needed.
Adjust plans and events based on client feedback and needs, and prepare backup or emergency plans.
Ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events.
Set up, break down, and clean before and after events while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers shop, locate products, and find solutions.
Provide a fast and friendly checkout experience.
Explain Rewards program and private-label credit card benefits and complete enrollments.
Educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with omnichannel processes, including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram processes.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance, and perform Store in Stock Optimization and ad-set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow standard operating procedures, company programs, policies, and standards.
Interact respectfully with others, maintain a positive attitude in difficult situations, and serve as a positive role model for team members.
Cross-train in custom framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleanliness activities, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
