About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other activities—within a Michaels store, providing guests with a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience. The role involves demonstrating and teaching craft projects, face painting and other activities, managing event add-ons, communicating with clients and store team members, and adjusting plans to meet client needs. Hosts also prepare for emergencies, ensure client satisfaction, and set up, break down, and clean event spaces while upholding company safety and cleanliness standards. The position also delivers friendly retail customer service, helps customers find products and solutions, and supports fast checkout. Additional store duties include operational and merchandise tasks, maintaining store standards, participating in online-order fulfillment, supporting shrink and safety programs, and cross-training in Custom Framing. The role works in a public retail setting, with hours that include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Energetic and enthusiastic personality.
Good written, verbal, nonverbal, and listening communication skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly, lift heavy boxes, and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events at once, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create an environment of fun and creativity.
Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects, face painting, and other activities.
Facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members.
Complete event-related administrative tasks, including answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork.
Adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs, and create backup or emergency plans.
Ensure client satisfaction and set up, break down, and clean before and after each event.
Uphold company cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and find solutions, and provide a fast and friendly checkout experience.
Engage customers regarding the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments.
Educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with omnichannel processes, including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS).
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram processes.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance, and perform Store in Stock Optimization (SISO) and ad-set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow company policies, standards, procedures, and applicable laws.
Interact with others respectfully, maintain a positive attitude, support company values, and serve as a role model for other team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleanliness activities, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
