About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events—at a Michaels store. The role creates a fun, creative, and engaging experience for guests of all ages while providing friendly retail customer service and helping customers find products. It also supports checkout, store operations, merchandise recovery, and store cleanliness and safety standards. The position coordinates multiple events, demonstrates and instructs craft activities, performs face painting and other activities, and manages event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons. The host communicates with clients and store team members, handles event-related administrative work, adjusts plans to client needs, prepares backup plans, and works to ensure client satisfaction. The role also assists with omnichannel orders, truck unloading, stocking, planograms, merchandise recovery, store-in-stock optimization, advertising set duties, and shrink and safety programs. Team members are cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production. The work takes place in a public retail store, with possible work in stock rooms and outdoors. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Must have experience working with children and children’s events.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to handle job stress.
Good written, verbal, nonverbal, and listening communication skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly.
Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create an atmosphere of fun and creativity.
Demonstrate and instruct craft projects, perform face painting, and lead other activities.
Facilitate event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members.
Answer emails, make phone calls, complete paperwork, and perform other event-related administrative tasks.
Adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs, and create backup or emergency plans.
Help ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events.
Set up, break down, and clean before and after each event while upholding cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and find solutions, and provide a fast, friendly checkout experience.
Promote the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments.
Educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram processes.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and advertising set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow standard operating procedures, company programs, policies, and standards.
Interact respectfully and positively with customers and coworkers and serve as a role model for other team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom upkeep.
Perform other duties as assigned.
