About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—at a Michaels store, creating a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for guests. The role includes demonstrating and instructing craft projects, performing face painting and other activities, arranging party add-ons, communicating with clients and store team members, and completing related administrative work. Hosts adapt events to client feedback, prepare backup plans, ensure client satisfaction, and maintain cleanliness and safety before, during, and after events. The position also provides retail customer service and checkout assistance; supports Rewards and Private Label Credit Card enrollment and customer surveys; assists with Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store processes; and performs stocking, truck unloading, merchandise recovery, planogram, and store maintenance duties. The host supports shrink and safety programs, follows company policies and procedures, participates in daily cleaning, and is cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to handle job stress and remain positive and respectful in difficult situations.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.

Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly; lift heavy boxes; and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create an environment of fun and creativity.
Demonstrate and instruct craft projects, perform face painting, and facilitate other activities.
Arrange party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members; handle event-related emails, phone calls, and paperwork.
Adjust events based on client feedback and needs, create backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean event areas while upholding cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and find solutions, and provide fast, friendly checkout service.
Explain Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card benefits and complete enrollments; educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, merchandise recovery, and maintenance.
Perform Store in Stock Optimization and ad-set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow standard operating procedures, company policies, and applicable requirements.
Interact respectfully and positively with guests and coworkers and serve as a role model for team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
