About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—at a Michaels store, creating a fun and engaging experience for guests. The role also provides customer service, assists customers with shopping and checkout, and performs store operations such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and cleanliness and safety tasks. The host coordinates multiple events at a time, demonstrates and instructs craft projects, performs face painting and other activities, and facilitates party add-ons. The role includes communicating with clients and team members, completing event-related administrative work, adapting plans to feedback, preparing backup or emergency plans, and ensuring client satisfaction. Hosts set up, break down, and clean event areas and uphold company standards. This role also supports daily retail operations, including checkout, Rewards and credit card enrollment, omni-channel order processes, planograms, inventory and merchandise tasks, shrink and safety programs, and store cleanliness. Team members are cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production and may perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to handle job stress and remain positive and respectful in difficult situations.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, stretch, and lift heavy boxes, including accessing high shelves by ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create a fun, creative environment.
Demonstrate and instruct craft projects, perform face painting, and lead other event activities.
Facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members; answer emails, make phone calls, and complete paperwork as needed.
Adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs, create backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean before and after events; uphold cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and provide shopping solutions; deliver a fast and friendly checkout experience.
Explain the benefits of the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, complete enrollments, and educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and ad set duties as assigned.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance and support shrink and safety programs.
Follow standard operating procedures, company programs, policies, and standards, including applicable legal requirements.
Interact respectfully and positively with customers and coworkers, promote company values, and serve as a role model for team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and maintaining restrooms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
