About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events—at a Michaels store. The role creates a fun, creative, and engaging experience for guests of all ages, demonstrates and instructs craft activities, and helps ensure scheduled events meet clients’ needs. The host also handles event communications and administrative tasks, prepares and cleans event spaces, and maintains company cleanliness and safety standards. In addition to event responsibilities, the role provides customer service on the sales floor and at checkout, helps customers locate products and solutions, supports loyalty and credit card enrollment, and assists with online order fulfillment. Store duties may include truck unloading, stocking, planogram work, merchandise recovery, store cleanliness, and safety and shrink programs. Team members are cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production and may perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly.
Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.
Must satisfy applicable federal, state, and local legal requirements for the job.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create an atmosphere of fun and creativity.
Demonstrate and teach craft projects, face painting, and other activities.
Facilitate event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members.
Complete event-related administrative tasks, including emails, phone calls, and paperwork.
Adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs, and create backup or emergency plans.
Ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events.
Set up, break down, and clean event areas before and after events while following cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers shop, locate products, and find solutions.
Provide customers with a fast and friendly checkout experience.
Explain Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card benefits and complete enrollments.
Educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram processes.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and AD set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow company procedures, policies, and standards.
Interact respectfully with customers and coworkers, maintain a positive attitude, and serve as a role model for other team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom cleaning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
