About The Position

The Retail Parts Counter/Shipping Receiving associate is responsible for assisting customers in purchasing automotive parts and accessories. This position requires strong product knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced dealership environment. The role involves receiving goods, verifying quality and count, maintaining inventory accuracy, processing shipments, and performing clerical duties. It also includes assisting retail customers at the parts counter, identifying correct parts, pulling, pricing, and invoicing parts, and managing special orders and back-ordered items.

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.
  • Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • State motor vehicle operators permit for operation of forklift highly preferred.
  • Prior automotive parts experience preferred, especially in a dealership or retail setting.
  • Familiarity with parts lookup systems (e.g. Dealertrack, or manufacturer-specific systems).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in purchasing automotive parts and accessories.
  • Greet retail customers promptly and professionally at the parts counter.
  • Assist customers in identifying correct parts using catalogs, systems, or VIN decoding tools.
  • Accurately pull, price, and invoice parts for retail customers.
  • Maintain and restock display areas and front counter merchandise.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to online parts inquiries.
  • Process special orders and follow up on back-ordered items.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy through cycle counts and stock checks.
  • Stay current on new products, technical bulletins, and manufacturer promotions.
  • Receive goods and verify the quality and count of all items unloaded from trucks and trailers; check against suppliers count and immediately report discrepancies to carriers, supervisor, per company policy.
  • Verify and record all items loaded for shipments.
  • Maintain database of shipment data to ensure that customer orders are updated and that appropriate billing documents are provided to accounting or other associated departments as required.
  • Notify supervisor of major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions.
  • Complete information on damage claims for in-transit damage.
  • Transport materials on shipping dock with a hand truck or other vehicle as needed.
  • Load trucks using a forklift.
  • Perform other clerical duties.
